Population: 27,000 people
County: San Luis Obispo
A small town on the banks of Salinas River, part of San Luis Obispo – Paso Robles metropolis. Like many other towns in South California Atascadero was built on a place of former Mexican rancho. It was founded by Edward Lewis in 1913 and was intended to be a small exemplary town. But after the town founder and patron went bankrupt it decayed and began to grow again in later fifties of the 20th century when a state hospital was built. America would not be America and California would not be California if even such a small town did not have some sights. You can find those here as well, like a zoo, a history museum and a popular golf club located at the basement of the Chalk Mountain.
