From the first sight this town is nothing extraordinary. Half-town, half-village. However it is known since 1850s. In its time it nearly became a capital town of Mono County. As most of other towns on the highway 395, Bridgeport is surrounded by picturesque pine forests, rivers, lakes and Sierra-Nevada slopes that give shelter to the natives, Indians, for more than 8000 years. Being contemporary to gold rush, Bridgeport retained many historical traces that tell about the everyday life of Californian gold miners. One of the most famous ghost cities called Bodi is located close to Bridgeport. It is an open air museum.

Prolific climate and amazing nature of the area made Bridgeport a small yet comfortable resort and a tourist place attracting campers - hikers, fishers, riders, skiers, etc.
